Aftermath Series

These works set out to interrupt the ‘believable’ space of the photographic image in various ways.

Aftermath and Perimeter combine original imagery gathered from Vietnam, Cambodia and the west of Ireland. These are physically worked into using ink and paint to resemble painted stage sets which render an uncertain sense of surface and depth.

In Aftermath - Self Portrait the surface of the photographic image is physically dissolved by immersion in a bleach solution. The process of its dissolution is documented, as it first distorts the recognizable portrait image and finally renders it completely abstract. The work is installed as a double series of 18 images.
