Aftermath Series - 2007/8

These works set out to interrupt the ‘believable’ space of the photographic image in various ways.

In Aftermath - Self Portrait the surface of the photographic image is physically dissolved by immersion in a bleach solution. The process of its dissolution is documented, as it first distorts the recognizable portrait image and finally renders it completely abstract.

Aftermath and Perimeter combine original imagery gathered from Vietnam, Cambodia and the west of Ireland. These are then physically worked into using ink and paint to create imagery resembling painted stage sets, with surface and depth becoming uncertain.
